Privacy Policy - Scam Guard

Effective date: August 9, 2026

Summary

Scam Guard is a phishing and fake website detector browser extension. It is built on a simple principle: your data is your own. Scam Guard does not collect or upload any personal data. It has no account system, no analytics and no trackers.

What data does Scam Guard collect?

None.

Scam Guard does not collect, store, transmit or sell any personal data, browsing history, passwords, payment information or any other user data. It has no account system, no analytics, no trackers and no data brokers.

Where does detection happen?

Detection runs inside your browser, on your own device. When you visit a website, Scam Guard reads the web address (URL) of the current tab and checks it locally against scam-detection rules that ship with the extension. On the page itself it also inspects page structure locally - links, login forms and input fields - so it can warn you before you type a password or card number into a suspicious page. This inspection is local: the page content is never sent anywhere.

The live phishing feed (the only remote download)

A couple of times a day, Scam Guard downloads a public list of reported scam and phishing domain names from the CERT.PL abuse feed (a Polish research and academic network's cybersecurity team, hole.cert.pl). This download is domain names only - it contains no URLs, no page content, and nothing about you or your browsing is included or sent. The download happens automatically to keep the protection current, and you can turn it off at any time in the extension settings. Legitimate domains (brand websites and the roots of shared hosting platforms) are filtered out and can never be blocked by this feed.

What about the blocked and trusted lists?

Your blocked and trusted site lists are stored only in your own browser's local storage. They are never uploaded. You can export them to a file or import them back at any time, and you can delete them at any time.

Does Scam Guard change or modify my data?

No. Scam Guard never modifies or uploads your data. It only shows warnings about suspicious websites and remembers your own block/trust choices in your browser.

Third-party services

The only third-party connection is the twice-a-day download of the public phishing domain list described above. Scam Guard does not integrate with any analytics provider, ad network or data broker, and no personal data is ever shared with any party.

Children's privacy

Scam Guard is a general-purpose privacy tool and does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy
